SOS Humanitarian reports that its vessel, Humanity 1, rescued 60 individuals early this morning from a dangerous situation at sea. The overcrowded and unseaworthy fibreglass boat, carrying survivors including children, a pregnant woman, and a cat, was found after departing from Tripoli, Libya, the previous night.
The survivors are in stable condition but are experiencing weakness and dizziness. The care team onboard is providing necessary support. The Italian authorities have designated Civitavecchia, 953.78 km away, as the port of safety for their disembarkation.
SOS Humanitarian, a non-governmental search and rescue organization, is dedicated to upholding human rights and ensuring that no one drowns while fleeing at sea.
